![]() The Story
"He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog.
You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart." The Story: Our Unit is currently deployed to Iraq. In September our platoon was given a mission that has us stationed at an Iraqi police center in the city. As soon as we arrived we had three dogs that befriended us (Mommy, Roxy, and Daisy). Then in late September Mommy had three more pups (Rocco, Penelope, and Minnie). There is a group from our platoon with the pups 24 hours a day and of course they have become loyal friends. The Iraqi people don't like dogs and frequently taunt, yell, and kick them. Only because we have kept a watchful eye, and had the support of family and friends who have mailed treats and food, have we been able to keep them alive. We were fortunate enough to get in touch with Operation Baghdad Pups, and they have agreed to help us get our dogs home. It is a big effort and the SPCA international covers most of the cost but we still need to raise money. We are estimating we will need to raise $7,000 to get all six dogs home. Any donation you make no matter how small WILL help us save our friends. Of course there are many risks in trying to get the dogs home and the SPCA makes no promises other than to do everything they can. In the event our pups don't make it home all of the money raised will be donated to Operation Baghdad Pups to help other soldiers get their dogs home. Mommy, Roxy, Daisy, Rocco, Penelope, and Minnie have made a difficult time easier for all of us, and given us unconditional love and loyalty. We are desperate to get the dogs somewhere safe where they can live the life they deserve. They have given us so much that it only seems fair to return the favor. |
